Sour Tsunami is a groundbreaking sativa-dominant hybrid that holds the distinction of being one of the first cannabis strains specifically bred for high CBD content rather than THC. Created by Lawrence Ringo of the Southern Humboldt Seed Collective through a complex breeding process involving Sour Diesel and NYC Diesel genetics, this strain was developed over four years of careful cultivation and back-crossing with Sour Diesel clones. The breeding process also incorporated a local California sativa-dominant strain called Ferrari before a final cross back with Sour Diesel produced the strain known today as Sour Tsunami. As one of the first viable CBD-rich hybrids on the commercial cannabis market, Sour Tsunami has won several awards and continues to inspire the creation of other popular hybrids.
This slightly sativa-dominant cultivar features 60% sativa genetics and 40% indica, producing dense, dark green buds with dark green and purple-tinged leaves that mature within 9 weeks of flowering. The strain exhibits citrusy, diesel-like notes with earthy undertones that ground the overall flavor profile, making it enjoyable to smoke or vape. When grown from seeds, approximately 25 percent of phenotypes will produce CBD-rich flowers, making this strain particularly valued for its therapeutic applications while maintaining mental clarity and functionality throughout the day.
