SFV OG
SFV OG
Also known as: San Fernando Valley OG, San Fernando Valley Kush, San Fernando Valley
Overview
SFV OG, or San Fernando Valley OG, originated as a phenotype of OG Kush bred by Swerve at Cali Connection Farms in Southern California's San Fernando Valley. The breeder selected a standout phenotype of OG Kush and crossed it with an Afghani landrace strain, creating one of the most respected indica-dominant hybrids in California's cannabis history. By the mid-2010s, SFV OG had established itself as one of the quintessential California strains and became a staple for growers and consumers in the early Prop 215 medical era, with its clean lemon aroma and balanced effects making it a go-to for both medicinal users and creatives.
Visually, SFV OG buds are tight and compact, with a dark green base color highlighted by orange-brown pistils weaving through the surface. A thick frosting of white trichomes gives the buds a crystalline sparkle, and well-cured flowers often feel sticky to the touch. The strain leads with aromatic notes of earthy pine and lemon, featuring a pungent and earthy scent that is often described as a mix of citrus, pine, and fuel. SFV OG took 3rd place in the Indica category at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in 2012, and 1st place at the Denver Cannabis Cup that same year, contributing to its extreme potency and recognition.

Growing Information
SFV OG thrives in a warm and sunny climate, making it suitable for outdoor cultivation in Mediterranean-like regions, though indoor cultivation with proper environmental control is also possible. The flowering time is around 8-9 weeks indoors, with harvest occurring in mid to late October for outdoor growers. When grown under optimal conditions, indoor growers can expect around 14-18 ounces per square meter, while outdoor cultivators can harvest up to 18-21 ounces per plant. Cultivating SFV OG is considered moderately challenging but highly rewarding for growers with some experience, though unlike other strains in the OG family, SFV OG is fairly simple to cultivate. Flowering generally takes 9 to 10 weeks, and growers often recommend pruning to improve light penetration and airflow through the canopy. During late flowering, carefully managing humidity helps protect the resin-rich buds from mold or mildew.
