Purple Trainwreck
Purple Trainwreck
Also known as: Granddaddy Trainwreck, Granddaddy Wreck, Purple Wreck
Overview
Purple Trainwreck is an indica-dominant hybrid strain created by crossing Trainwreck with Mendocino Purps. The strain has a 65% indica and 35% sativa genetic makeup, combining the robust properties of the legendary Trainwreck—itself a three-way cross between Mexican, Thai, and Afghani landrace strains—with the flavorful and colorful genetics of Mendocino Purps. This unique lineage creates a strain that delivers a stimulating, cerebral high that is anchored in physical relaxation. Purple Trainwreck is particularly noted for its beautiful violet color and ability to test up to 26% THC in some phenotypes.
The strain's appearance is characterized by fluffy yet dense buds with spiraled forest-green and lavender leaves, featuring long and wavy clumps of orange pistils scattered throughout. White-trichome hairs give the buds a fuzzy look and mask some of the deep purple color. The development of purple hues is temperature-dependent, with growers needing to keep temperatures slightly lower during the flowering stage for Purple Trainwreck to develop that beautiful purple hue. Purple Trainwreck is not too difficult to grow, making it suitable for both beginners and seasoned growers, and thrives in a warm dry climate, much like its Northern Californian homeland.

Growing Information
Purple Trainwreck plants can grow up to 65 to 80 inches tall, with the potential to produce a high yield of up to 18 ounces per square meter indoor or 25 ounces per plant outdoor. The strain typically has a flowering time of 8 to 10 weeks, though some growers report it may take as long as nine weeks to flower properly. Plants thrive in a warm, Mediterranean-like climate, ideally with daytime temperatures around 70°-85°F and humidity levels of 50-60% during the vegetative stage and 40-50% during the flowering phase. The strain is suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation and is resistant to both pests and moisture. When grown outdoors, Purple Trainwreck flowers throughout the late summer and can be expected to be ready for harvest around the middle of October. The strain is considered moderate difficulty to grow.
