Mazar
Mazar
Also known as: Mazar I Sharif, Mazar-I-Sharif, Sharif
Overview
Mazar is a legendary indica-dominant hybrid cannabis strain that originated from the Mazar-I-Sharif region of Afghanistan, named after the fourth largest city in Afghanistan known for its vast cannabis farms. First refined in Amsterdam during the 1980s by Dutch Passion, this strain was created by crossing an authentic Afghani landrace with Skunk #1 genetics, resulting in a vigorous plant that produces flowers with deeply relaxing, almost narcotic-like effects. The strain gained international recognition, winning second place at the 1999 High Times Cannabis Cup and the 2002 High Life Cup, establishing it as a true cannabis classic.
Mazar plants exhibit a characteristic Christmas tree structure with thick, heavy side branches that support dense, resinous buds covered in a sticky layer of trichomes. The strain is known for its robust growth characteristics and can reach impressive heights of up to 4 meters (13 feet) when grown outdoors, while remaining more compact indoors. The flowers develop with an extremely resinous coating, making it highly prized for hash production. The plant's appearance features dense, bright green buds with vibrant orange pistils scattered throughout, all encased in a fuzzy but sticky coat of trichomes that gives the buds a frosted appearance.

Growing Information
Mazar is considered an easy-to-grow strain suitable for both novice and experienced cultivators. It thrives in both indoor and outdoor environments with a flowering time of 8-10 weeks. Indoor yields typically range from 14-18 oz/m² (400-500g/m²), while outdoor plants can produce 18-22 oz per plant (500-600g) with some exceptional cases reaching up to 32 oz (2 pounds) per plant. The strain prefers temperatures between 70-80°F (21-27°C) with moderate humidity levels (60-70% vegetative, 40-50% flowering). Plants remain relatively compact indoors but can grow very tall outdoors, requiring support for heavy branches during late flowering. Mazar is hardy and resistant to pests and diseases, making it forgiving for beginners. It performs well in various climates including temperate, arid, and Mediterranean conditions.
