Indiana Bubblegum
Indiana Bubblegum
Also known as: Indiana Bubble Gum, IBG, Indy BG, Indiana BubbleGum
Overview
Indiana Bubblegum is a legendary strain that first emerged in the Midwest during the 1970s and quickly earned a cult following. This strain represents the legendary mother cut behind every Bubblegum variety known today and has played a foundational role in modern cannabis breeding. The strain's exact genetic lineage remains a mystery, though it is believed to be created through crossing classic Afghani landrace with an unknown strain. Unlike seed versions, this is the true Indiana mother cut, preserved through decades of careful cloning.
The plant structure and appearance are distinctive, featuring medium height plants that produce dense, resinous buds that shine with bag appeal. Indiana Bubblegum buds have dense and small fan-shaped dark olive green nugs with blue undertones, thin orange hairs and tiny blue-tinted white crystal trichomes. The plants typically grow medium-tall with a slender, less-branchy structure and produce compact, crystal covered buds.
This strain has earned over 13 cannabis competition awards, including the High Times Cannabis Cup and First Prize Outdoor at the Spannabis Champions Cup. Developed initially in Indiana, the genetics then migrated to New England and finally to the Netherlands, where it has influenced countless breeding projects. The authentic Indiana Bubblegum is a clone-only strain; seed versions come from later European breeding projects.

Growing Information
Indiana Bubblegum is moderately easy to grow but thrives under attentive care. Flowering time is typically 8-9 weeks indoors, with outdoor harvests around early October. Average yield is approximately 400 g/m² and the plant doesn't grow too tall, making it easily manageable indoors or outdoors. It produces buds in 52-61 days if cultivated carefully. The stabilized strain produces plants with few branches, but which soar during the stretch, requiring careful attention in small growing spaces. The early stages of seedlings can be tender and require careful attention at this stage. It responds well to topping and SCROG setups and performs equally well indoors and outdoors. Growing difficulty is rated as beginner to intermediate friendly.
