Overview

Emerald OG is an indica-dominant hybrid (70% indica/30% sativa) developed by the California Breeders Association. This strain is a cross of Fire OG and Emerald Diesel that was then backcrossed with another male Fire OG plant. The original cross that was made is (Fire OG x Emerald Diesel) x Fire OG. After five years of painstaking labor by the breeders, this strain was finally released to the public. The strain exhibits thick, dense buds that have a tapered, almost bullet-like shape with bright emerald green colored, medium-sized Christmas tree-shaped nugs with fiery orange hairs and chunky milky almost clear trichomes. Some phenotypes of this strain also show off flashes of purple in their leaves, which come about when exposed to colder temperatures during cultivation. The buds are notably very sticky and difficult to break up without a grinder due to their heavy trichome coverage.

Growing Information

Growing this strain is very easy whether indoors or outdoors. Hence, it is one of the best hybrids for beginners. One reason is that it is not finicky. Besides being a low-maintenance plant, it is also tolerant of small mistakes. It can be cultivated indoors and outdoors with a flowering time of approximately 60 days (8-9 weeks). It is prone to bud rot though, so growers will want to make sure there is good air circulation especially when it is planted inside the house. Once ready for harvest, growers can pick up to 12 ounces of buds every square meter when grown indoors. The best climate for Emerald OG to thrive outdoors is in an environment that is typically the Mediterranean. It begins to flower as it passed the midway point of October. Each plant can also produce up to 12 ounces of buds. Getting some purple coloring on your Emerald OG buds may require exposure to colder temperatures at night. However, if the temperature falls by more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit when compared to daytime, you could send your plants into shock.
