Colombian Gold 72
Also known as: Santa Marta Colombian Gold, Colombian Gold 1972, CG72
Overview
Colombian Gold 72 is a pure sativa cannabis strain that has been preserved by the international community since 1972, originally originating from the Santa Marta mountains of Colombia. This landrace variety is characterized as 100% sativa with genetics tracing to Colombian landrace origins. The strain demonstrates extraordinary vigorous growth, continuing to grow strongly during bloom, making it not recommended for novice growers due to its vigorous growth and long maturation. Plants develop resinous and voluptuous buds with sweet, fruity and peppery smell and taste that is very long lasting.
The buds are noted for their distinctive golden/yellowish hue with orange and reddish hairs that develop as they mature and cure. Colombian Gold 72 develops flexible branches and has an extremely long flowering period that may take up to 18 weeks, requiring approximately 126 days (18 weeks) of flowering time. This strain represents one of the last pure expressions of 1970s Colombian genetics before hybridization became widespread in the region.

Growing Information
Colombian Gold 72 is not advised for novice growers due to its vigorous growth and extremely long flowering period of up to 18 weeks. This landrace variety has extraordinary vigorous growth during bloom, so a short vegetative period is recommended along with pruning and training techniques to control height. The strain can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors, requiring approximately 126 days (18 weeks) of flowering. Outdoor harvest typically occurs in December-January with average yields. Some breeders report flowering times of 70-84 days for certain selections. Plants can grow very tall and require ample vertical space and training methods to manage their sativa structure.
