Chocolope
Chocolope
Also known as: D-Line
Overview
Chocolope is a sativa-dominant cannabis strain created by DNA Genetics, combining Chocolate Thai and Cannalope Haze genetics. Originally known as the 'D-Line,' this strain was developed to capture the essence of the chocolate strains that were popular in the 1980s while reducing flowering time. The strain pays homage to the legendary Chocolate Thai through DNA Genetics' backcrossing efforts to achieve a shorter bloom cycle while retaining the distinctive chocolate flavor profile. Chocolope has earned significant recognition in the cannabis community, winning multiple Cannabis Cup awards including High Times Strain of the Year in 2007, and numerous first-place finishes in various cannabis competitions. The strain is considered an almost pure sativa (95% sativa, 5% indica) that produces large, cylindrical buds with bright orange pistils and a loose leaf structure. The buds display an airy texture but are covered in resinous trichomes, giving them a distinctive appearance. Chocolope's hefty buds deliver complex flavors combining earthy, sweet coffee notes with chocolate undertones and subtle melon hints from its Cannalope Haze lineage, creating a sophisticated taste profile that sets it apart from contemporary strains.

Growing Information
Chocolope is considered a novice grower's dream plant, rated as easy to grow difficulty. Indoor flowering time ranges from 8-10 weeks (63-70 days), with some sources reporting up to 12 weeks due to its sativa heritage. Outdoor harvest typically occurs in late October to early November. Plants can grow quite tall (4-6 feet indoors, even taller outdoors) and prefer warm, dry climates similar to Mediterranean conditions. Indoor yields average 500-600g/m² (21 ounces per square meter), while outdoor yields can reach 60 grams per square foot or 500-700g per plant. The strain is prone to mold and mildew, requiring good ventilation and humidity control. Plants respond well to SCROG (Screen of Green) methods and prefer light to moderate feeding to avoid nutrient burn. Growers should remove large fan leaves to improve airflow and prevent moisture retention in lower areas.
