Chocolate Thai
Chocolate Thai
Also known as: Thai Sticks, OG Chocolate Thai
Overview
Chocolate Thai is a legendary landrace strain from Thailand that first made an appearance in the U.S. sometime in the 1960s as "Thai sticks," spindly flowers tied to a bamboo stick that were renowned for their potent high. This pure sativa landrace hails from the lush, equatorial climate of Thailand, where it grew wild for generations before being imported into the U.S. in the 1960s and '70s. During this era, it gained recognition in the form of "Thai Sticks"—buds tied to bamboo sticks and cured in a traditional style that helped preserve their potency and distinctive aroma. Old school heads remember these buds as slender and airy, medium-to-dark brown in color, and possessing a unique chocolate-coffee aroma.
Due to the fact that it was a long-flowering, low-yielding sativa strain that always produced male flowers and seeds and was incredibly difficult to clone and grow, it is most likely that Chocolate Thai no longer exists in its original form. There are several seed lines sold under the name, but these have either been crossbred to provide some stabilizing traits or are of unknown provenance. With THC levels typically ranging from 12–16%, Chocolate Thai is not the most potent strain by today's standards—but that's part of its charm. The high is clear, focused, and deeply energizing. This strain carries the legacy of a pure sativa landrace that shaped cannabis history, offering a rare combination of rich, earthy chocolate flavor, uplifting sativa energy, and landrace purity.

Growing Information
Growing Chocolate Thai is not for the faint of heart, requiring warm, humid environments that mirror its natural habitat. Indoors, temperature and humidity control are crucial, as Chocolate Thai is sensitive to colder conditions and requires a longer flowering time—often around 10 to 14 weeks. Growers should be prepared for a moderate to low yield. Its buds tend to be smaller and less dense than modern hybrids, but what they lack in size, they make up for in flavor and resin quality. Optimal temperature ranges from 75–85°F with humidity levels around 50–60%. The strain is considered difficult to grow with low yields both indoors and outdoors, requiring tropical climate conditions. Outdoors, it can reach impressive heights and may benefit from support due to its lanky structure. The strain is notorious for producing male flowers and seeds, making it particularly challenging to maintain stable, feminized crops and incredibly difficult to clone.
