Cherry Garcia, also known as "Garcia's Cherry" and "Cherry Gar See Ya," is a hybrid marijuana strain made by crossing Animal Cookies with 3x Crazy. Originally bred by Natural State Cultivation, this balanced hybrid strain features a 50% indica and 50% sativa genetic split. The name Cherry Garcia is a playful nod to the iconic ice cream flavor and, more distantly, to Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. 3X Crazy is an Indica-dominant hybrid of legendary strains in OG Kush, Bubba Kush, and Granddaddy Purple, while Animal Cookies is another strain with massive genetics as it is a child strain of Fire OG and Girl Scout Cookies.
In cannabis, the moniker surfaced in the mid-to-late 2010s as breeders chased cherry-forward dessert profiles that paired fruit with cookie and cream notes. Several breeders released their own Cherry Garcia or Cherry Gar-See-Ya versions, each contributing to the strain's rapid popularization in legal markets. The strain exhibits huge clumpy nugs with beautiful purple and orange strands, creating an appealing visual presentation. Mature flowers are medium-dense to very dense, with a calyx-stacked structure that ranges from golf-ball to tapering spear shapes. Cherry Garcia has a flowering time of 8-10 weeks, with some sources indicating the flowering phase lasts 50 to 60 days. The strain can be grown indoors or outdoors although outdoor grows have higher yields. Outdoors you can expect up to 20 ounces per plant. Indoors will yield around 2 ounces per square foot if grown in an optimal environment. Indoors, expect plants to reach a height of 5-6 feet, while outdoor plants can grow taller, often exceeding 8 feet. Flowering typically takes 8-9 weeks, with harvests ready by early to mid-October. Outdoor plants can produce up to 550 grams per plant, whereas indoor yields average around 400 grams per square meter. Finding cuttings is going to be very important with this strain as finding seeds could prove impossible.
