Chernobyl
Chernobyl
Overview
Chernobyl is a sativa-dominant hybrid strain created by TGA Genetics (now Subcool's The Dank), developed by crossing three potent strains: Trainwreck, Trinity, and Jack the Ripper. The strain derives its name from the Ukrainian city associated with the catastrophic nuclear accident, reflecting its potent and transformative effects. According to SubCool, the breeder, he was on a quest for the best Trainwreck cutting he could find when he discovered an exceptional female plant by Smokescreen that exhibited all the traits of the famous Trainwreck without producing a single male stamen even late into budding.
Phenotypes typically range from 60-80% sativa, reflecting its genetics from the two sativas (Trainwreck and Jack the Ripper) and one sativa-dominant hybrid (Trinity). The strain produces small to medium-sized buds that are densely packed with crystal trichomes and orange to light-brown pistils, typically having an elongated, sometimes conical shape with a light green coloration when ready for harvest. Chernobyl was named one of High Times' Strains of the Year in 2010, the same year it initially hit the marketplace. The strain has been used as a parent in numerous hybrid crosses, with over 35 direct descendants found in seedfinder databases, demonstrating its popularity among breeders.

Growing Information
Chernobyl has a flowering time of 8-9 weeks (approximately 60-63 days) and can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors. For best results, the plant should be topped early and trained to stay as low as possible, as it tends to grow tall with multiple towers of buds and stretches significantly during flowering. Plants typically stretch by approximately 150% after being set into the flowering phase. Chernobyl is described as a vigorous plant with a lot of stretch and many side branches that doesn't need much extra care. The strain produces medium-high yields with good calyx-to-leaf ratio, making plants easy to trim. The strain can be somewhat challenging for inexperienced growers. Growing difficulty is rated as intermediate, with an expected yield of approximately 14 ounces per plant outdoors.
