Chemo
Chemo
Also known as: UBC Chemo, Kemo
Overview
Chemo, also known more commonly as "UBC Chemo" to cannabis users, is a 100% pure indica hybrid with unknown genetics that was bred specifically to treat patients going through chemo treatments. The strain is a clone-only plant, developed first by Dr. David Suzuki at the University of British Columbia sometime in the 1960s or 1970s. Here, so the story goes, a team of cancer researchers purportedly developed this particular strain as part of a project to create a cannabis variety that could help mitigate the harsh side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Despite the lack of definitive historical records to verify the university's direct involvement in the development of the Chemo strain, the narrative has been embraced within cannabis culture, underscoring the plant's significance in medicinal applications. Chemo buds have dark purple spade-shaped rock hard resinous nugs that are covered in dark rich orange curly hairs. Each nug is caked with a layer of thick chunky white crystal trichomes and a fine layer of sticky sweet resin. The rarity of this strain comes from the fact that it is clone only, though both Federation Seeds and BC Bud Depot have crossed the strain to release their own seed versions. UBC Chemo of the clone only kind is said to look a little different from other strains, having an almost bonsai look to the plant as the leaves are often too large and wide.

Growing Information
Chemo strain requires some expertise, but can be grown indoor and outdoor. Perhaps, the fact that this plant is so rare, it requires some expertise to grow successfully. If you are an experienced cannabis grower, you can try growing your own Chemo strain either indoor or outdoor. Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Chemo strain to harvest after a short flowering period of 50-60 days. The plant has a short flowering time of 8-9 weeks and yields dense, resinous buds. UBC Chemo reaches full maturity in 49 to 56 days indoors, while outdoor gardens produce in mid-October. At the end of each flowering time, you can expect a high indoor yield of 18 to 28 ounces per square meter. Since Chemo is quite flexible with its environment, it will not be that difficult to grow them outside. If grown outdoor, you would be happy to know that this strain can tolerate cool to warmer climates. Another good thing about this strain is the fact that it is resistant to molds and pests.
