Azad Kashmir

Azad Kashmir is a rare indica-dominant landrace cannabis strain developed by Red Scare Seed Company that draws its lineage from the Azad Kashmir region of Pakistani-controlled Kashmir in the Himalayan mountains. This strain represents a preservation effort of indigenous genetics from a politically volatile area where access to original genetics has become increasingly difficult. The strain was created through a meticulous breeding process that combined traditional landrace genetics from the Himalayan region with modern breeding techniques, resulting in over 85% indica dominance with clear markers of old-world genetics reminiscent of historic Afghan and Kashmir cultivars.

The plant exhibits distinctive morphological characteristics including squat, columnar growth structure with jagged, saw-blade-like leaves and broad leaflets typical of 'Jurassic' indica varieties. Plants develop dense, resinous buds with a high flower-to-leaf ratio and often display beautiful color changes during flowering, fading to pinks, coppers, and gold rather than traditional purple hues. The strain is known for its exceptional resin production and carries what cultivators describe as a 'copious amount of resin' despite being a landrace variety. Two main phenotypes exist: a tall, lanky variety that grows faster, and a short, bushy phenotype with a distinctive floral ganja aroma that is instantly recognizable to experienced growers.
