Arcata Trainwreck S1
Arcata Trainwreck S1
Also known as: ATW S1, Arcata Wreck S1
Overview
Arcata Trainwreck S1 is a feminized seed reproduction of the legendary Arcata Trainwreck clone, created by selfing the original clone-only cut that has been held since 2000 and was originally acquired while living in Arcata, California. This represents the closest available genetic match to the authentic Arcata Trainwreck. The original Arcata Trainwreck, hailing from Northern California, is a sativa-dominant hybrid strain of mixed heritage featuring Mexican and Thai sativas bred with Afghani indicas in its lineage. Dating back to 1976, this clone is considered one of the most morphologically and chemically sativa-dominant heirloom hybrid cannabis strains in the world.
The strain was bred in Arcata, California and received its name from its direct location of origin near the abandoned Redwood lumber industry's train tracks which weave through the domestic coastal community of Humboldt County. The plant grows tall with vine-like characteristics, featuring significant internodal spacing and buds that resemble golf balls in size while being tight, hard, and extremely sticky. The plant exhibits exceptional trichome coverage, appearing almost gray due to resin production that begins immediately in flower and covers the entire plant. The strain is notably disease resistant, making it more favorable among cultivators, though it presents cultivation challenges with a weak and flimsy branching system requiring tender care and balanced soil health.

Growing Information
Arcata Trainwreck S1 can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors and is available only as feminized seeds. Flowering times range from 9-11 weeks, and while the strain has a reputation for being prone to intersex traits, once properly dialed in, this is not typically a concern. Indoor flowering typically spans 9-10 weeks, while outdoor plants finish by early October when grown outside. This is considered a finicky sativa strain with flowering time ranging 7-10 weeks. It grows long, lanky stalks making it a good candidate for Screen of Green setups, though mature plants will likely need supports or posts to prevent stalks from slumping over. Plants can reach mid to tall heights requiring regular training techniques such as topping, low-stress training (LST), or Screen of Green (ScrOG) methods, with LST or ScrOG potentially increasing yield volume by 25% compared to unmanaged plants. The strain can be finicky with lower yields and lanky growth, historically being grown primarily indoors.
