Arcata Trainwreck
Arcata Trainwreck
Also known as: Trainwreck Arcata Cut, Arcata Wreck
Overview
Arcata Trainwreck is a renowned sativa-dominant hybrid strain that originates from Northern California's Humboldt County, first grown in the early 1980s and bred in Arcata California along abandoned Redwood lumber industry train tracks. The strain is a phenotype of Trainwreck with mixed heritage genetics including Mexican Sativa, Thai Sativa, and Afghani Indica landrace genetics. Dating back to 1976, the Arcata Trainwreck clone is one of the most morphological and chemically sativa-dominant heirloom hybrid cannabis strains in the world.
Bred by Jaws Gear, Arcata Trainwreck is best known for its potent and soaring sativa effects, named because it hits hard like a train. The plant grows tall and vine-like with lots of internodal spacing, producing golf ball-sized buds that are tight, hard and extremely sticky. It has such extensive trichome coverage that the plant looks almost gray, with resin production beginning almost immediately in flower and covering the whole plant in frost. The plant is also disease resistant, which makes it more favorable over others. This is a clone-only strain that was received from Humboldt County's Kneeland area around 1999 and floated around the county for a few years before slowly disappearing by 2008.

Growing Information
Arcata Trainwreck is a hybrid cultivar that thrives in both indoor and outdoor gardens. The strain's tall, thin plants require structural support and plenty of staking, though skilled growers can boost yields using Screen of Green (ScROG) training methods. Arcata Trainwreck flowers in 56 to 70 days inside and by early October when raised outdoors. Challenging to grow, the Trainwreck has a weak and flimsy branching system, requiring tender care as well as balanced soil health to achieve the plant's highest quality expressions. As an heirloom cultivar, Arcata Trainwreck can truly only be the Trainwreck when grown outdoors under the natural sun in its place of origin. The strain is finicky with lower yield and lanky growth, and is very prone to hermaphrodites as it's deeply embedded in the genetics that every plant will throw bananas if it's pure Arcata Wreck.
