Arcadian

Arcadian is a well-preserved Greek cannabis landrace strain originating from the mountainous Arcadia region of the Peloponnese peninsula. The original accession of seeds was collected around Mantineia in 2005, significantly before modern hybrid strains were widespread in Greece and well prior to any known impact of modern strains on provincial regions such as the rural Peloponnese. The Arcadia region of the Peloponnese mountains was renowned as the producer of superior quality sieved hashish during Greece's heyday as the main exporter for the hashish markets of the East Mediterranean. From the 1860s to the 1920s a busy smuggling trade from the ports of Greece and across the north African deserts supplied the vast demand from the megacities of Egypt such as Cairo and Alexandria.

This landrace represents a piece of cannabis history, appearing to be representative of 'kannàvi', the name for the cannabis that was cultivated on a large scale around Mantineia for more than 60 years. Plants exhibit classic Mediterranean 'hashplant' morphology with resin glands on long stalks and loose bud structure, reaching heights of up to 2.5 meters with considerable lateral branching. Aromas and taste are mainly fruity, earthy herbal, and slightly spicy – the smoke undoubtedly reminiscent of high-grade old-school Greek hashish. The variety is noted for being resistant to almost all diseases, pests and fungi, with an elegant sativa-like structure featuring many branches and medium-sized buds with incredible terpenes including cedar, lemon, thyme, sage, frankincense and oregano.
