Afghan Haze
Afghan Haze
Also known as: Afghan x Haze, Ahz
Overview
Afghan Haze is a sativa-dominant hybrid strain that represents a masterful fusion of cannabis breeding history. This strain combines a resinous Afghani indica with a sweet-smelling Haze sativa, created by former Sensi breeder Nevil Schoenmaker and Shantibaba of Mr. Nice Seeds. The strain emerged during the early 1990s as one of the first successful Haze hybrids, representing an old-school crossing of cannabis classics from opposite ends of the indica-sativa spectrum, combining Original Haze and heavy duty Afghan genetics. Afghan Haze typically exhibits a 55/45 sativa-to-indica ratio, seamlessly balancing the relaxing sedation of Afghani with the uplifting energy of Haze.
Visually, Afghan Haze presents distinctive characteristics that reflect its dual heritage. The buds appear as reddish resin-coated nuggets with moderate stickiness, leaning more towards the Haze side in appearance with larger calyxes and notable trichome coverage when properly cultivated. The buds are short and bushy with forest and mint-green leaves interspersed with long, stringy orange pistils, coated in a thick trichome frost. The strain's aromatic profile is complex and inviting, featuring a delightful mix of earthy, nutty, and woody notes with hints of skunk, while the taste follows with rich earthy tones reminiscent of hash and subtle skunk undertones.

Growing Information
Afghan Haze has a notably long indoor flowering time of 10 weeks, but produces large harvests of potent, crystal-covered buds that justify the extended wait. Indoor yields typically range from 350-450 grams per square meter up to 500-600 grams per square meter, with plants reaching 100-150cm in height and a flowering period of 8-10 weeks depending on phenotype selection. The strain tends to display 2-3 different phenotypes that can lean toward either parent's growth pattern, growing vine-like and responding well to early training and pruning. Afghan Haze is suitable for easy to medium level growers, though more advanced cultivators will achieve superior results. The strain is suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation, with outdoor plants producing substantially heavier yields in appropriate climates.
